Independent Assurance of Sustainability Reports and Sustainability Information
Sustainability is not limited to environmental impact or reducing CO₂ emissions. It encompasses three interconnected areas: environmental, social and governance (ESG). It considers how a company uses energy and manages greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, how it addresses employees’ working conditions, training and equal opportunities, as well as how it ensures business ethics, prevents corruption, maintains responsible governance and manages other processes essential to sustainable business practices. These environmental, social and governance areas are covered by the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

We help companies assess their sustainability information and enhance its reliability. The review of sustainability reports and ESG data helps determine whether the information presented is substantiated, consistent and appropriately reflects the company’s impacts, risks and opportunities. Reliable sustainability information is becoming increasingly important not only because of regulatory requirements – it may also be required when engaging with financial institutions, investors, customers and larger companies whose value chains include your business.
Even if your company is not currently required to prepare or obtain assurance over a sustainability report, it is worthwhile to start organising sustainability information in advance. Voluntary sustainability reporting and assurance can help companies prepare for the information requirements of the market and business partners, assess data quality and identify areas where processes can be further strengthened. The European Commission has also introduced a voluntary sustainability reporting framework for companies that fall outside the scope of mandatory sustainability reporting requirements.
